    Experience:

My summer internship experience was an excellent learning experience and an all around great time. It was interesting to participate in the golf course maintenance of a world renowned resort as a member of a crew that worked out of a shop which housed a total of five golf course maintenance crews as well as the resorts maintenance crew. I was able to participate in all aspects of the course maintenance from mowing to spraying to general grounds beatification however, it seemed that much of my time, especially during the afternoon hours was spent chasing wilt of the bentgrass greens. The past summer in Pinehurst was unusually hot with most afternoons in the upper 90's but, the real story of the summer was the extreme dryness. During the three months I spent at Pinehurst a total of about three inches of rainfall fell. The lack of rainfall significantly drained the main source of irrigation for 5 of the 8 Pinehurst courses which led to major water restrictions, making the task of keeping the cool season bentgrass greens alive through the unusual heat even tougher. These conditions lead to many long days and lots of running around, however the "wilt chasing" coupled with all the other Pinehurst golf course experience made for a summer full of learning and fun.
