Youth
Violence Prevention
Multisystemic Therapy
Dealing with juvenile offenders is difficult and can
seem impossible at times. Recently, however, researchers
and practitioners have begun to identify effective
interventions for children and youth who display antisocial
behavior.
Multisystemic Therapy (MST), a comprehensive, individualized,
family- and home-based approach, is one intervention
that has proven successful in reducing or eliminating
antisocial behavior in youth.
The following fact sheets describe the causes and correlates
of antisocial behavior and provide information about
various aspects of MST.
The
Bullying Prevention Program
The
Bullying Prevention Program is a multi-level, multi-component
program designed to reduce and prevent bully/victim
problems among students at school. School staff are
largely responsible for introducing and implementing
the program, and their efforts are directed towards
improving peer relations and making the school a safe
and pleasant environment. The program, which was developed
by Professor Dan Olweus (University of Bergen, Norway),
was identified by the Center for the Study and Prevention
of Violence (University of Colorado, Boulder) as one
of ten Blueprint Programs for Violence Prevention.
The following fact sheet provides an overview of this
program and identifies several sources for additional
information.
