Creating
Supportive Communities for Families with Young Children (Fall
2000) describes what communities can do to assure
that all children have a good beginning. The booklet
(1) identifies the kind of care, skills, and environment
that very young children need to develop socially,
emotionally, and cognitively so they will be ready
to learn when they enter school; (2) describes the
supports that families need to help them rear their
children; and (3) provides information to guide communities
interested in strengthening and empowering families.
Symposium on Faith-Based Organizations and Community
Development
The Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life hosted
a 2-day symposium (October 30, 2000) on the role of
faith-based organizations in community development.
Institute Director, Gary Melton, gave the opening address.
